Nation Builders | Build a Better World

About Nation Builders

Build a better world.

Our mission is to prepare emerging leaders to influence their peers, government, and economy as agents of change.

What We Do

The Nation Builders Program prepares high school and college emerging leaders to influence their peers, their government, and their economy through programs that challenge them to combine what they learn in the classroom with their imagination and innovation to solve problems in their community. We facilitate the development of human-centered design, project management, sustainable development, and leadership skills for our participants.

Our programs are facilitated through partnerships with private, public, and nonprofit sector organizations, and communities of focus. We create collaborations between youth of different countries, challenging them to help their nations achieve their United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. By developing solutions to local through global problems with emerging technologies, our participants are empowered to make a meaningful impact on the world.

Our Story

The Nation Builders Program was started by Dr. Mason West III and Mrs. Shamica West in 2016. Inspired by the need to bring young people from different experiences, nations, ethnic groups, and religions together to engage in problem-solving about common problems they faced, the program aims to teach future leaders that there is more that unites them as human beings than divides them as members of different groups.

As educators, the founders wanted to create an applied learning approach that combines project-based, problem-based, and experiential learning, enabling students to witness their ability to make an impact now rather than in some distant future. The first program brought students from Morehouse College together with Belgian students to engage in cultural and academic exchange following a series of terrorist attacks in Belgium and France.

Since that successful initial program, Nation Builders has conducted programs in collaboration with other organizations in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Mexico, Egypt, Jamaica, and Colombia. We have worked with individual embassies, the United States Agency for International Development, the Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, the Egyptian Government, as well as numerous United States-based, Colombian-based, and United Kingdom-based charitable organizations. Through these programs, we continue to foster global collaboration, understanding, and impactful problem-solving among emerging leaders.
